Questions, comments, or additions to THeMAFYA @aol.com

THe MAFYA is dedicated to helping Yale Alumni to perform and create, to watch others perform and create, and to support the overall state of artistic affairs in NYC (and possibly soon LA) as a vibrant, integrated community.  (This Mission Statement is currently under construction.  Last Updated 12/11/98).

Welcome to the Bulletin Board of THe MAFYA

Email us at THeMAFYA @aol.com with any questions, comments. or additional postings. Anything you can think of that isn't (very) disgusting is welcome. We're thinking "Looking for viola to complete string quartet" or "Does anyone know where to get good sheet music" or anything else you guys can come up with. Just send any postings to THeMAFYA@aol.com. If you don't feel like having your personal information on the web, we can have initial correspondence go through our e-mail address, and that way we can publish answers to interesting questions. Just let us know.

YOUNG NEW YORKERS’ CHORUS AUDITIONS

The Young New Yorkers' Chorus, a chamber choir for young adults ages 20-30, is auditioning singers for its upcoming 2002-2003 concert season.  The choir is made up of amateur, student and professional musicians ages 20-30.  We perform a mixture of classical choral greats from the Renaissance to Contemporary. Our next concert program will include Victoria’s Missa O Magnum Mysterium, and Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms well as works by Vaughan Williams, Duruflé, Poulenc and Tavener. We are currently auditioning all voice types. Interested singers should have experience singing in choral ensembles, good sight reading ability and enthusiasm to match! For more information or to schedule an audition, please contact Nathan Davis at (646) 742-2728 or info@youngnewyorkerschorus.org.

HEY VOCALISTS AND FANS....!!!

The Vocal Area Network maintains a an extensive calendar of vocal ensemble music in New York. We have performances in and around the New York area which may be of interest to members of THe MAFYA.

Vocal Area Network is an organization of volunteers dedicated to the advancement of vocal ensemble music in the New York City area. Our goal is to establish Vocal Area Network as the center for vocal ensemble activities and information in New York by providing a physical and spiritual home for the growing community of professional and avocational ensemble singers and their audiences. We plan to offer services and produce events to meet the needs of that community. Your participation and support are most welcome. Check them out at http://www.van.org.

Steve Friedman ES'82 runs the site.

SINGERS WANTED

The Central City Chorus is a volunteer, community-based chorus that has performed many non-traditional choral works in its fifteen year history. It rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:30 until 10 pm and gives three major concerts per year, all at Central Presbyterian Church at Park Avenue and 64th Street. Newly appointed Music Director David Friddle invites men of all political, religious, musical and sexual persuasions to join this group and "sing it out, Louise." Men are MUCH needed and will be treated with honor, dignity and the imperial state trappings that any self-respecting tenor or bass deserves.

For more information, call David Friddle (aka Dr. Dave) at 212.838.1744. You'll be REALLY glad you did.
